You’ve Filed A Workers Compensation Claim, Now What?

After you’ve been injured on the job and have filed a claim for workers compensation what should you do then? This is a question that many workers are faced with after suffering from an injury on the job. All employers in Australia are required to own workers compensation insurance in order to protect themselves, as well as their employees against injuries that may occur on the job. Workers compensation allows employees to file compensation claims for injuries that occurred on the job without having to prove their employer’s negligence in the occurrence of the accident.

After you’ve filed a workers compensation claim you may feel that your work is now done, but your responsibilities don’t end there. In order to help your case you should do the following:

Review all information regarding your claim- You should always review the information regarding your claim for workers compensation throughout the filing process, but you may find that you have more time after the claim has been filed to really grasp the details of it.

Remain in contact with your employer It’s important that you stay in contact with your employer regarding your injury and over well-being. Your employer will need to keep status reports on your progress for their records in order to comply with the law and to establish when and if you will return to work and when.

Be prepared to provide more information-Although you’ve turned in your workers compensation claim you should still be prepared to provide additional information if it is requested by your employer or their workers compensation insurer. More details are often needed regarding the circumstances surrounding the events that lead up to the injury, the diagnosis of your injury, and other information that was provided on your claim.

Follow doctor’s orders- After diagnosing your injuries, your doctor will provide you with a treatment plan that may include rehab, medicines, counseling, and other regimens that will help you get back in good health and to work. Even after your claim has been filed and before it’s been settled you should follow all of your doctor’s orders.

Contact an attorney- Working with a workers compensation lawyer is not necessary in every case but can help you more easily understand and process your claim. An experienced lawyer can get you the answers and results you need after filing your claim. They can also help you prepare for the anticipated outcome beforehand.
